  2. We had just bought our first house.  After about a week or two after moving in, we noticed that we had a huge bat problem. There wasn’t anything we tried that would make them go away.  We sampled everything from Raid to traps and nothing seemed to work.  That’s when a friend of ours suggested that we call Critter 911. Literally, just after one visit, we had no sign of any bats.  And we have been rat free for almost a 8 months now not to mention any other bug that thought our home was a good place to take up residence. Thanks Shirly T.
  3. Critter 911 has serviced us well for many years. Living near a nature preserve with two kids and pets can make our home inviting for
unwanted guests. Critter lets us rest easy knowing that bugs stay outside while we are comfortable and safe inside. Thanks Mike S.

Prior to being known by its current name, Orlando was known as Jernigan. This originates from the first permanent settler, Aaron Jernigan, a cattleman who acquired land along Lake Holden by the terms of the Armed Occupation Act of 1842.

Local legend says the name Orlando originated from a soldier named Orlando Reeves who died in the area during the Second Seminole War. There are conflicting legends, however, as Orlando Reeves (sometimes Rees) operated a sugar mill and plantation about 30 miles (50 km) to the north at Spring Garden in Volusia County. Pioneer settlers simply found his name carved into a tree as “Orlando Acosta” and assumed it was a marker for his grave site. They then referred to the area as “Orlando’s grave” and later simply Orlando. According to written evidence, Orlando Acosta was also a soldier, but most details of his life are uncertain. A memorial beside Lake Eola designates the spot where the city’s namesake fell.

But the heyday of Kissimmee was short lived. Expanding railroads began to challenge the steamships for carrying freight and passengers. By 1885, the South Florida Railroad had extended its tracks again to Miami. The Panic of 1893 was the worst depression or economic slump the U.S. had experienced, crushing land speculation and unsound debt. Hamilton Disston closed his Kissimmee land operation. Back to back freezes in 1894 and 1895 wiped out the citrus industry. The freezes, combined with South Florida’s growth and the relocation of steamship operations to Lake Okeechobee, left Kissimmee dependent on cattle raising.

Kissimmee had a population of 4,310 in 1950. At that point there was some citrus packing as well as the ranching.

Maitland is one of the oldest incorporated municipalities in Central Florida. Although the area was previously inhabited by native Americans, the town is named after Fort Maitland which was built in 1838 on the western shore of Lake Fumecheliga (later Lake Maitland) during the Second Seminole Indian War. After the war the fort was torn down and the settlement remained. This settlement came to be called Maitland. After the civil war, the area was put into extensive citrus production.

During late 2007, the Town of Windermere filed a proposal to annex Isleworth and Butler Bay, another wealthy subdivision. This was met with extensive debate from town residents and an objection from Orange County, which stood to lose millions of dollars of property tax revenue. After lengthy discussions, and battles with the county, Isleworth remained in the county, but Butler Bay was annexed into Windermere with over 90% of its residents approving annexation via a mail in ballot. Windermere is also home to famous cyclists, the Windermere Roadies, led by Sir Manny Otero of Winter Garden.

The site was first inhabited by Europeans in 1858, when David Mizell Jr. bought an 8-acre (32,000 m2) homestead between Lakes Virginia, Mizell and Berry. A settlement, called Lake View by the inhabitants, grew up around Mizell’s plot. It got a post office and a new name—Osceola—in 1870. The area did not develop rapidly until 1880, when a South Florida Railroad track connecting Orlando and Sanford was laid a few miles west of Osceola. Shortly afterwards, Loring Chase came to Orange County from Chicago to recuperate from a lung disease. In his travels, he discovered the pretty group of lakes just east of the railbed. He enlisted a wealthy New Englander, Oliver E. Chapman, and they assembled a very large tract of land, upon which they planned the town of Winter Park. Over the next four years they plotted the town, opened streets, built a town hall and a store, planted orange trees, and required all buildings to meet stylistic and architectural standards. They promoted it heavily. During this time, the railroad constructed a depot (1882), connected to Osceola by a dirt road.

The area where Daytona Beach is today was once inhabited by the indigenous, Timucuan Indians, who lived in fortified villages. The Timucuas were decimated by contact with Europeans through war, enslavement and disease and became extinct as a racial entity through assimilation and attrition during the 1700′s. This land grant encompassed the area that would become Daytona Beach. Williams built a slave labor based plantation to grow cotton, rice and sugar cane. know your competition: Orlando Animal Control

Wildlife Patrol works to resolve animal conflicts while minimizing harm or stress upon the animals. This means that we never use lethal methods of control, such as “killer traps”. We also never use poison, which is never recommended for large animals, and is very inhumane. We use live-catch cage traps to safely constrain the animal, and we relocate these animals to suitable habitat far from the capture point. They will end up in a safe place, where they can live without encroaching upon people’s property. To ensure that we don’t leave any animals stuck in a cage for a lengthy period of time, we diligently check our traps every single day.

Orlando has a warm and humid subtropical climate, Köppen climate classification Cfb, and there are two major seasons each year. One is hot and rainy, lasting from June until late September (roughly coinciding with the Atlantic hurricane season). The other is the dry season (October through May) bringing more moderate temperatures and less frequent rainfall. The area’s warm and humid climate is caused primarily by its low elevation, its position relatively close to the Tropic of Cancer, and its location in the center of a peninsula. Many characteristics of its climate are a result of its proximity to the Gulf Stream, which flows around the peninsula of Florida.

During the height of Orlando’s humid summer season, temperatures rarely fall below 70 °F (21 °C), and daytime highs average in the 90s (32-37 °C). The area’s humidity acts as a buffer, usually preventing actual temperatures from exceeding 100 °F (38 °C), but also pushing the heat index to over 110 °F (43 °C). The city’s highest recorded temperature is 101 °F (38 °C), set July 2, 1998. During these months, strong afternoon thunderstorms occur almost daily. These storms are caused by air masses from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean colliding over Central Florida. They are highlighted by spectacular lightning and can also bring heavy rain (sometimes several inches per hour) and powerful winds as well as occasional damaging hail.

The city is also home to the annual NCCAA men’s soccer National Championship Tournament.

Osceola Heritage Park is an event facility featuring a concert arena (Silver Spurs Arena) and professional sports stadium (Osceola County Stadium). The Silver Spurs Arena has been host to many acts, ranging from Hilary Duff and Bob Dylan to an annual rodeo event. Jehovah’s Witnesses also use The Silver Spurs Arena for their annual District Conventions. In 2008, a number of English and Spanish conventions will be held by the Witnesses, bringing thousands of delegates to the Kissimmee area for the three-day events.

Kissimmee is home to a 650-person capacity outdoor water park, in addition to multiple golf courses.

Kissimmee is also home to the Loop, a large outdoor shopping mall at John Young and Osceola Parkways on the Orange/Osceola County line. It features stores such as American Eagle, Kohls, and Best Buy. There is also a multi-plex theater.

Kissimmee is near Orlando, home to Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld, allowing tourists to access the parks through the city.

Because of Daytona Beach’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the city has a significant chance of receiving hurricanes and tropical storms every hurricane season. However, prior to 2004, major hurricanes are only recorded as skirting by the coast of Daytona Beach without any direct hits.

Hurricane Floyd passed along the Florida coast in September 1999, which caused significant beach erosion and collapsed about 200 ft. section of the Daytona Beach Pier.

The 2004 Hurricane season was particularly tumultuous in the Daytona Beach area. Hurricane Charley was a very fast-moving, compact storm, which made landfall near Port Charlotte, Florida on the Gulf Coast of Florida, on August 13, swept northeast across the state, and hit Daytona Beach from the inland side before reentering the Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Frances was a very large storm in size, which moved made landfall at Hutchinson Island South, Florida (near Port St. Lucie, Florida) in the early hours of September 5, and caused a significant amount of collateral damage. Portions of Daytona Beach were without electricity or phone service for ten days following Frances due to downed lines or shorted transformers. Just three weeks later, Hurricane Jeanne formed in the Atlantic Ocean and made landfall only six miles from the same spot Frances hit, at Hutchinson Island South, Florida, on September 26. Following the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season, the names Charlie, Frances, and Jeanne were all retired from use.

On November 2, 1920, after two black men (July Perry and Moses Norman) attempted to vote and encouraged other blacks to vote, the entire black population of the town was violently attacked. On the night of the massacre, white World War I veterans from throughout Orange County participated. At least 24 black homes were burnt. All the institutions making up the black community were destroyed. Prior to 1920, the town of Ocoee had a black population of almost five hundred; after the massacre, the population was reduced to zero to two (depending on the source reference). For more than 40 years, Ocoee remained an all-white town.

know your competition: Orlando Pest Control – Rat Removal

The name of this website is OrlandoRats because we research rats in Orlando. Although we are experts at solving problems involving raccoons, opossums, squirrels, etc, our absolute best specialty is rat control. We have learned a great deal from all of the animals that we deal with: how they enter homes, and how to best solve the problems they cause. Rats present a unique challenge because they are able to squeeze through such small areas, and because they are expert climbers. They are also very common in the state of Florida. In our years of working with rats, we have learned everything about their behavior, and now solving rat problems is second nature to us.

  2. We had just bought our first house.  After about a week or two after moving in, we noticed that we had a huge rat problem. There wasn’t anything we tried that would make them go away.  We sampled everything from Raid to traps and nothing seemed to work.  That’s when a friend of ours suggested that we call Critter 911. Literally, just after one visit, we had no sign of any rats.
Artic lets us rest easy knowing that bugs stay outside while we are comfortable and safe inside. Thanks Mike S.

Orlando, as Florida’s largest inland city, became a popular resort during the years between the Spanish-American War and World War I. In the 1920s, Orlando experienced extensive housing development during the Florida Land Boom. Land prices soared. During this period several neighborhoods in downtown were constructed, endowing it with many bungalows. The boom ended when several hurricanes hit Florida in the late 1920s, along with the Great Depression.

During World War II, a number of Army personnel were stationed at the Orlando Army Air Base and nearby Pinecastle Army Air Field. Some of these servicemen stayed in Orlando to settle and raise families. In 1956 the aerospace and defense company Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) established a plant in the city. Orlando AAB and Pinecastle AAF were transferred to the United States Air Force in 1947 when it became a separate service and were re-designated as air force bases (AFB). In 1958, Pinecastle AFB was renamed McCoy Air Force Base after Colonel Michael N.W. McCoy, a former commander of the 320th Bombardment Wing at the installation, killed in the crash of a B-47 Stratojet bomber north of Orlando. In the 1960s, the base subsequently became home to the 306th Bombardment Wing of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), operating B-52 Stratofortress and KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft, in addition to detachment operations by EC-121 and U-2 aircraft.

Perhaps the most critical event for Orlando’s economy occurred in 1965 when Walt Disney announced plans to build Walt Disney World. Although Disney had considered the regions of Miami and Tampa for his park, one of the major reasons behind his decision not to locate there was due to hurricanes— Orlando’s inland location, although not free from hurricane damage, exposed it to less threat than coastal regions. The vacation resort opened in October 1971, ushering in an explosive population and economic growth for the Orlando metropolitan area, which now encompasses Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Lake counties. As a result, tourism became the centerpiece of the area’s economy. Orlando is consistently ranked as one of the top vacation destinations in the world, and now boasts more theme parks and entertainment attractions than anywhere else in the world.

The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.21.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 12.0% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 18.5% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,949, and the median income for a family was $36,361. Males had a median income of $25,851 versus $21,025 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,071. About 12.3% of families and 15.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.0% of those under age 18 and 10.2% of those age 65 or over.

Kissimmee has an Amtrak train station, which is planned to be a station stop on the planned SunRail commuter rail system. There is also a Greyhound bus station. Local bus service is provided by the Lynx network.

Until the 1980s, Main Street north of Sixth Avenue and Sixth Avenue east of Main Street were maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) as part of State Road 439 (SR 439). This was given to Orange County as CR 439, and Orange County eventually removed all signs and gave the part inside Windermere to the town. Signs put up by FDOT still mark the north end of CR 439 at SR 50, but no other signs exist, in part because Orange County has a general policy of not signing county roads.

The Florida Midland Railroad, part of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, used to run just west of Main Street; there is now a large grassy area between Main Street and the dirt road (often called Dirt Main Street) that ran just west of the railroad. Windermere had a station on the railroad. The speed on roads entering Windermere are typically 45 MPH and transition to 30 MPH. When entering windermere there is a sign that says “turn it down, slow it down”. If you visit, pay heed or pay a fine.

Gillett and his son D. Collins Gillett later went on to plant the largest orange grove in the world in the 1920s (5,000 acres (2,000 ha)) in Temple Terrace, Florida.

The city attracts over 8,000,000 tourists each year. It is one of the few places in the world where a car can be driven on an ocean beach.

During motorcycle events (Bike Week and Biketoberfest), several hundred thousand bikers from all over the world visit the greater Daytona Beach area. While the city is often associated with spring break, the efforts of the local government to discourage rowdiness, combined with the rise of other spring break destinations, have nearly ended Daytona’s former preeminence as a spring break destination.

Special events that draw visitors to Daytona Beach include:

-Speedweeks (Daytona 500 NASCAR race, Rolex 24 sports car race, and others)
-Coke Zero 400, NASCAR race on or around July 4 (Traditionally called the Pepsi 400 or Firecracker 400)
-Daytona Beach Bike Week Daytona 200 motorcycle races, bike shows and biker reunion in March -Biketoberfest in October
-Turkey Run car show and events during Thanksgiving weekend (Traditionally called the Turkey Rod Run)
-Spring break (date varies, usually the first and second week of March)

Daytona Beach is also home to the headquarters of NASCAR, Grand-Am, International Speedway Corporation, United States Tennis Association in Florida, and the LPGA.

know your competition: Orlando Pest Control – Rat Removal

The name of this website is OrlandoRats because we research rats in Orlando. Although we are experts at solving problems involving raccoons, opossums, squirrels, etc, our absolute best specialty is rat control. We have learned a great deal from all of the animals that we deal with: how they enter homes, and how to best solve the problems they cause. Rats present a unique challenge because they are able to squeeze through such small areas, and because they are expert climbers. They are also very common in the state of Florida. In our years of working with rats, we have learned everything about their behavior, and now solving rat problems is second nature to us.

Orlando (pronounced /ɔrˈlændoʊ/) is a city in the central region of the U.S. state of Florida. It is the county seat of Orange County and the center of the Greater Orlando metropolitan region. The Orlando metropolitan area has a population of 2,082,628 and it is the 27th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city-proper population is 230,519 making Orlando the 82nd largest city in the United States. It is Florida’s fifth largest city by population. Orlando was incorporated on July 31, 1875, and became a city in 1885.

Originally the center of a major citrus growing region, Orlando is a city now heavily urbanized with various industries. The area is a major tourist destination and is the home of Universal Orlando Resort, and SeaWorld Orlando. Lake Buena Vista, Florida, located 21 miles southwest of downtown Orlando, is the home of Walt Disney World. These attractions form the backbone of Orlando’s tourism industry, making the city the third most visited American city in 2007. Like other major cities in the Sun Belt, Orlando grew rapidly during the 1980s and well into the 2000s. Since the establishment of destination tourism in the 1970s, the local economy has diversified and today the region is the center of operations for companies servicing Central Florida. Orlando is also home to the University of Central Florida, the largest university campus by student enrollment in the state of Florida and among the largest in the United States.

Kissimmee (pronounced /kɨˈsɪmi/, with the accent on the second syllable) is a city in Osceola County, Florida, United States. As of 2009, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 62,632. It is the county seat of Osceola County. Kissimmee is a Principal City of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida, Metropolitan Statistical Area, which the census bureau estimated had a 2009 population of Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, FL MSA.

Founded in the mid-19th century as Allendale, it was renamed Kissimmee when incorporated as a city in 1883. Its growth can be credited to Hamilton Disston of Philadelphia, who based his two-million acre (8,000 km2) drainage operation out of the small town. Disston had contracted with the financially wobbly state of Florida to drain its southern lands, for which he would own half of all he successfully drained. This deal made Disston the largest single landowner in the United States.

Disston’s dredging and land speculation required a small steamboat industry to transport people and goods along the new waterway. The Kissimmee shipyard was responsible for building most of these large steamships, which were just one jump ahead of civilization—with Kissimmee as the jumping off point. Concurrently, the South Florida Railroad was growing and extended the end of its line from Sanford down to Kissimmee, making the town on Lake Tohopekaliga a transportation hub for Central Florida. On February 12, 1885, the Florida Legislature incorporated the Kissimmee City Street Railway.

The city is historically known as having a beach where the hard packed sand allows motorized vehicles to drive on the beach in restricted areas. This course was replaced in 1959 by the Daytona International Speedway. The city is also the headquarters for NASCAR and the Grand American Road Racing Association.

Daytona Beach is a year-round family-friendly resort area, but could also accurately be called a seasonal town, with large groups of out-of-towners descending upon the city for various events, most notably Speedweeks in early February when over 200,000 NASCAR fans come to attend the season-opening Daytona 500. Other events include the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 race in July, Bike Week in early March, Biketoberfest in late October, and the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race in January. In the past Daytona Beach catered to spring breakers, but in recent years most of the vacationers have migrated to other sites, like Panama City Beach.

More recently, it has become a suburb of Orlando. Maitland’s “historical corridor” encompasses old residences still standing and occupied in the Lake Lily-Lake Catherine area and extending through the central portion of the city. Several examples of these century old homes are: the Arthur O’Heir House (1885), Chadburne Hall or High Oaks (1890), the James Arch House (1885), the Robert L. Wagner House (1881) and the Hill-Stone House (1908). The area has always been a vacation spot because of its climate, location to theme parks and people. However, Maitland has recently become a location where affluent individuals have come to reside. Additionally, Electronic Arts’s Tiburon studio, makers of the popular Madden NFL series and NCAA Football series, is located in Maitland. Maitland has many picturesque parks along lakes, which attract many boaters.

Windermere is located on an isthmus between several lakes in the Lake Butler chain. As such, it is on the shortest road route between the east and west sides of the chain. In fact, the next crossing to the south is 7.5 miles (12 km) south at Lake Buena Vista, where County Road 535 (CR 535) and Apopka-Vineland Road meet. The next crossing to the north is at Gotha, the north end of the chain of lakes, 2.25 miles (3.5 km) to the north. 2003 Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), much of which is commuters passing through, is 17,197 vehicles per day for Sixth Avenue (the east entrance), 18,362 on Main Street north of Sixth Avenue, and 9,484 on Main Street south of Sixth Avenue.

Windermere tries to regulate traffic and encourages traffic to use alternate routes. In 2004, two roundabouts were installed downtown with the largest public works project in the town’s history. This has greatly improved traffic flow and relieved cut through traffic. A third roundabout was completed in August of 2010 at the intersection of Park Avenue and Maguire Road. This is at the Windermere Elementary School intersection. All roads in the downtown area (laid out in a grid) are dirt roads except for a few through roads:

The first president to visit was Chester A. Arthur he reported to the papers that Winter Park was “the prettiest place I have seen in Florida” President Grover Cleveland visited the area and was given a huge reception at the Seminole Hotel on February 23 of 1888. He enjoyed the Bounding Horse Cart ride and stated that it was the most pleasant diversion of his Florida Trip. The New York Times reported on his visit and stated that, ” The Philadelphian and Bostonian founders had done a good job with the town”. The following four years both hotel and the town became a fashionable winter resort for Northern visitors. The next President to visit the area was Franklin D. Roosevelt in March 1936. He was conferred an honorary degree in literature at Rollins College.

In May 1981, during a period of record-low water levels in Florida’s limestone aquifer, a massive sinkhole opened up near the corner of Denning Drive and Fairbanks Avenue. In a single day the hole widened to 320 feet (98 m) and to a depth of 90 feet (27 m), destroying an import car dealership, a public pool, and large portions of Denning Drive. In addition, the sinkhole “ate” an entire two-story home. The deepest part of the limestone cavern must have been directly under the house as not even the peak of its roof could be seen after the sinkhole stabilized. Fortunately, no one was in the house at the time the cavern roof collapsed. City engineers managed to stabilize the sinkhole, which drew national attention and became a popular tourist attraction during the summer of 1981. A carnival-like atmosphere arose around the area, with vendors selling food, balloons, and t-shirts to visitors. Eventually the novelty wore off as the city repaired the damage and turned the sinkhole into man-made Lake Rose, seen in this aerial view.

Deltona is located at 28°54′25″N 81°12′59″W (28.907032, -81.216345). The majority of the land in the city is of karst topography. Eons ago, when ocean levels were higher Deltona was much closer to the seashore. The ancient sand dunes and the foliage that adapted there are now an ecosystem that is quickly becoming scarce in Florida because of development. This landscape is dominated on the surface by sandhills and Sand Pine scrub while below its surface limestone and sandy soils work to filter rainfall as it becomes groundwater and part of Florida’s unique hydrological system.

By the 1920s, it was dubbed “The World’s Most Famous Beach”.

Daytona’s wide beach of smooth, compacted sand attracted automobile and motorcycle races beginning in 1902, as pioneers in the industry tested their inventions. On March 8, 1936, the first stock car race was held on the Daytona Beach Road Course. In 1959, William France created NASCAR and the Daytona International Speedway to replace the beach course. Automobiles are still permitted on certain areas of the beach, at a maximum speed of 10 mph.

Another major factor in Orlando’s growth occurred in 1962, when the new Orlando Jetport, the precursor of the present day Orlando International Airport, was built from a portion of the McCoy Air Force Base. By 1970, four major airlines (Delta Air Lines, National Airlines, Eastern Airlines and Southern Airways) were providing scheduled flights. McCoy Air Force Base officially closed in 1975, and most of it is now part of the airport. The airport still retains the former Air Force Base airport code (MCO).

Today, the historic core of “Old Orlando” is located in downtown Orlando along Church Street, between Orange Avenue and Garland Avenue. The historic district is primarily located in the neighborhoods around Lake Eola where century old oaks line brick streets. These neighborhoods, known as “Lake Eola Heights” and “Thornton Park” contain some of the oldest homes in Orlando.

Kissimmee Gateway Airport offered nonstop service to 12 cities on DayJet, but those services ended when the company suspended all operations in September 2008.

The Houston Astros conduct spring training in Kissimmee, at Osceola County Stadium. The stadium also hosts numerous amateur baseball events throughout the remainder of the year in conjunction with; USSSA, Triple Crown Sports, World Baseball Federation and Promotion Sports. The Jim Evan’s Academy of Professional Umpiring has also called Osceola County Stadium home since 1994.

The Osceola County Softball Complex is a facility of five (5) softball fields which are host to a variety of amateur sports events. It is the home of the USSSA 2005 Complex of the Year Award, the Rebel Spring Games, and numerous other fast-pitch softball, slow-pitch softball, and youth baseball events.

Austin-Tindall Regional Park is another athletic facility in the area that is host to a variety of annual events.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.4 km² (8.6 mi²). 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is land and 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²) of it (15.14%) is water. It is nestled among the Winter Park Chain of Lakes, a series of aquifer fed lakes interconnected by a series of navigable canals, which were originally created for flood control and to run logs to a sawmill on present day Lake Virginia. The lakes are popular for boating, watersports, fishing and swimming. The city is traversed by the old Orlando-Oviedo (“Dinky Line”) railroad bed, which until the 1960s had a stop at Lake Virginia/Rollins College at the city park now known as Dinky Dock. Much of this right of way has been converted to a rail-to-trail pedestrian/biking path – in the form of the Cady Way Trail, which leads from Cady Way Park toward the Baldwin Park neighborhood and downtown Orlando, and in the opposite direction to Oviedo and beyond (via the Florida trail), thanks to a new pedestrian bridge spanning Semoran Boulevard (SR 436) in Orange County. Currently, CSX operates a rail line through Winter Park on the former Atlantic Coast Line, with an Amtrak Station in downtown’s historic Central Park.

Cranes Roost Park, Cranes Roost Lake, and the general area on State Road 436 east of Interstate 4 is known as the central area of the city. This is the area that borders Interstate 4 which is the main interstate highway for Central Florida connecting Daytona Beach, Orlando, and Tampa. An outdoor town center was recently opened named ‘Uptown Altamonte’ which marks the central business district of the city. Cranes Roost at Uptown Altamonte features a cheorographed water fountain show that entertains people of all ages. The spectacular music, light and water show features classical, swing and contemporary music in a 20 minute performance.

This bona fide city center incorporates large scale apartment buildings and planned high rise condominiums. The construction also includes surface street shops and retailers with a distinct urban feel. The new park area includes a people friendly-square for weddings, festivals, and city holidays. The spot has become popular with Altamonte Springs residents, and attracts residents from nearby Longwood, Casselberry, and Maitland. Construction is still ongoing, but future plans include two new high rise residential structures (in excess of 10 stories) and a series of parking garages to facilitate visitors.

know your competition: Orlando Animal Control

Wildlife Patrol works to resolve animal conflicts while minimizing harm or stress upon the animals. This means that we never use lethal methods of control, such as “killer traps”. We also never use poison, which is never recommended for large animals, and is very inhumane. We use live-catch cage traps to safely constrain the animal, and we relocate these animals to suitable habitat far from the capture point. They will end up in a safe place, where they can live without encroaching upon people’s property. To ensure that we don’t leave any animals stuck in a cage for a lengthy period of time, we diligently check our traps every single day.

So what are moonwalks anyway? Moonwalks, also known as inflatables, jumpers, bounce houses, bouncers, bouncy castles, moonbounces, jump jumps, and any other names people use, are inflatable toy structures used for riding and playing on. These moonwalks have become the most popular attractions at any party or event. From toddlers to adults, everyone loves playing on and using these inflatables. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a regular bounce house or a sixty-foot long obstacle combo everyone loves using these inflatables. They go great for birthday parties, holiday parties, carnivals, business events, church parties, school carnivals, sporting events, or any other gathering where people go to have fun. The reason why moonwalks have become so popular at parties is because they provide a fun and exciting activity for people to do. Whether it’s just jumping around, sliding, racing through obstacles, or playing a sports activity, moonwalks are enjoyed and loved by all ages. Another reason why moonwalks are a hit at parties is because they keep kids occupied in a safe and fun inflatable structure, leaving parents to enjoy the party as well. And besides the fact that moonwalks are so fun and loved by everyone, another great reason to use them is because they provide a healthy exercise for kids. I’m sure any parent would rather have their child playing a fun and exciting activity outdoor instead of sitting at home watching television or playing video games. The appearance and size of moonwalks are another reason why people are so attracted to them. Moonwalks are generally big and tall so people of all ages and sizes can use them. When placed in your home or at outdoor events, they grab peoples attention making your party or event come to life. Inflatable structures are structures made of a flexible outer membrane or fabric that is filled with gas, such as air or helium. The gas gives shape and strength to the structure. Uses include roofs and covers, mock castles and games, sails, airships, furniture, aerospace structures, boats, escape slides, security mattresses, swimming pools, coverings, buildings and pavilions, and air bags. The name given to such structures varies. They have been marketed with such names as Bounce house, Moon Bounce, Astrojump, Moonwalk, Jolly jump and Spacewalk. The term ‘Jolly Jumps’ is often used to describe the inflatable playground structure in rural areas and some areas in the Western US. Historically, names for inflatable structures, particularly in the United States, are composed of two, one syllable words. Thus, the popularity of terms such as Bounce House, Moon Bounce, Astrojump, and Moonwalk can be seen. “Bouncy Castle orInflatable Castle are used in Ireland, the UK, New Zealand and parts of Australia, and Jumping Castles in Arizona, Australia, Canada and South Africa. The term moonwalk has become a generic term for enclosed inflatable trampolines in the US. Inflatable structures are rented for functions, school and church festivals and village fetes. Although they are aimed at children, adult castles can be hired in the UK. Because of liability concerns, moonwalks are rarely rented to adults in the US. The growth in popularity of moonwalks has led to an inflatable rental industry which includes inflatable slides, obstacle courses, games, and more. Inflatables are ideal for portable amusements because they are easy to transport and store.

An obstacle course is a series of challenging physical obstacles an individual or team must navigate usually while being timed. Obstacle courses can include running, climbing, jumping, crawling and balancing elements with the aim of testing endurance; sometimes a course involves mental tests. Inflatable (air filled) obstacle courses can have participants go through a variety of areas like the Bish Bash, a tall loose structure to push or wade through, nets to crawl under, walls to climb over and holes to jump through. Some larger inflatables have even more areas.

Jacksonville is the largest city in the U.S. state of Florida and the county seat of Duval County. The governments of the City of Jacksonville and Duval County consolidated in 1968, giving Jacksonville a particularly large land area and placing most of its metropolitan area within the city limits. As a result it is the most populous city proper in Florida and the thirteenth most populous in the United States. Jacksonville is the principal city in the Greater Jacksonville Metropolitan Area, a region with a population of more than 1,525,228.
Jacksonville is located in the First Coast region of northeast Florida and is centered on the banks of the St. Johns River, about 25 miles (40 km) south of the Georgia border and about 340 miles (547 km) north of Miami. The European-American settlement that became Jacksonville was founded in 1791 as Cowford, so named because of its location at a narrow point in the river where cattle once crossed. In 1822, a year after the United States acquired the colony of Florida from Spain, the city was renamed for Andrew Jackson, the first military governor of the Florida Territory and seventh President of the United States.

A commercial kitchen exhaust system must be cleaned regularly in order to control odors and temperatures, and prevent grease fires. You can clean the accessible areas of the hood yourself, but fire and health codes in most areas require you to hire a licensed professional to clean the remote areas. This may seem like an unnecessary expense, but it is an important safety measure and well worth the cost. Clean the hood whenever you see grease buildup. After you close your restaurant at night, cover your stove or grill with a piece of impermeable plastic such as a drop cloth or a large, unused trash bag. Spray an industrial solvent on the greasy areas before you leave. When you return in the morning, use a nylon scrubbing pad to clean away the grease, rinsing the pad with warm water when it gets sticky. Wear sturdy rubber gloves when you work with the solvent. Remove the grease filters by tugging on the small handles. Soak them overnight in a solution of industrial solvent and water. Run them through the dishwasher in the morning. If you don’t have a commercial dishwasher, scrub them with a sturdy brush. Wear rubber gloves when you handle them. Clean the grease trap as well by sliding it out of its holder, emptying it, and using the same procedure as you used for the filters.

Kitchen exhaust cleaning (often referred to as “hood cleaner”) is the process of removing grease that has accumulated inside the ducts, hoods, fans and vents of exhaust systems of commercial kitchens. Left uncleaned, kitchen exhaust systems eventually accumulate enough grease to become extreme fire hazards. Exhaust systems must be inspected regularly, at intervals consistent with usage, to determine whether or not cleaning needed before a dangerous amount of grease has accumulated. Kitchen exhaust systems are cleaned with either caustic chemicals or hot water pressure-washing. Some cleaners use both methods depending on the application and availability of tools. Caustic chemicals can be applied to break down the grease. After that, hot water can be used to rinse away the residue. Chemicals are generally applied with either a garden type sprayer, downstream injection through a pressure washer or with a chemical foamer. Once the chemicals are applied, they are allowed to dwell on the surface of the grease for a period of time, before being washed off of the surface with hot water. In extreme situations, where grease buildup is too heavy for a chemical application and a rinse, scrapers may be used to remove excess buildup from the contaminated surfaces, before chemicals are applied.

To tax (from the Latin taxo; “I estimate”, which in turn is from tangō; “I touch”) is to impose a financial charge or other levy upon a taxpayer (an individual or legal entity) by a state or the functional equivalent of a state such that failure to pay is punishable by law.

Taxes are also imposed by many subnational entities. Taxes consist of direct tax or indirect tax, and may be paid in money or as its labour equivalent (often but not always unpaid labour). A tax may be defined as a “pecuniary burden laid upon individuals or property owners to support the government a payment exacted by legislative authority.” A tax “is not a voluntary payment or donation, but an enforced contribution, exacted pursuant to legislative authority” and is “any contribution imposed by government whether under the name of toll, tribute, tallage, gabel, impost, duty, custom, excise, subsidy, aid, supply, or other name.”

Financial services refer to services provided by the finance industry. The finance industry encompasses a broad range of organizations that deal with the management of money. Among these organizations are banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, consumer finance companies, stock brokerages, investment funds and some government sponsored enterprises. As of 2004, the financial services industry represented 20% of the market capitalization of the S&P 500 in the United States.

A bank is a financial intermediary that accepts deposits and channels those deposits into lending activities, either directly or through capital markets. A bank connects customers with capital deficits to customers with capital surpluses.

Banking is generally a highly regulated industry, and government restrictions on financial activities by banks have varied over time and location. The current set of global bank capital standards are called Basel II. In some countries such as Germany, banks have historically owned major stakes in industrial corporations while in other countries such as the United States banks are prohibited from owning non-financial companies. In Japan, banks are usually the nexus of a cross-share holding entity known as the keiretsu. In Iceland banks had very light regulation prior to 2008 collapse.

Investment is the commitment of money or capital to purchase financial instruments or other assets in order to gain profitable returns in the form of interest, income, or appreciation of the value of the instrument. It is related to saving or deferring consumption. Investment is involved in many areas of the economy, such as business management and finance no matter for households, firms, or governments. An investment involves the choice by an individual or an organization such as a pension fund, after some analysis or thought, to place or lend money in a vehicle, instrument or asset, such as property, commodity, stock, bond, financial derivatives (e.g. futures or options), or the foreign asset denominated in foreign currency, that has certain level of risk and provides the possibility of generating returns over a period of time.

Bookkeeping is the recording of financial transactions. Transactions include sales, purchases, income, and payments by an individual or organization. Bookkeeping is usually performed by a bookkeeper. Bookkeeping should not be confused with accounting. The accounting process is usually performed by an accountant. The accountant creates reports from the recorded financial transactions recorded by the bookkeeper and files forms with government agencies. There are some common methods of bookkeeping such as the Single-entry bookkeeping system and the Double-entry bookkeeping system. But while these systems may be seen as “real” bookkeeping, any process that involves the recording of financial transactions is a bookkeeping process.

Marianna was founded in 1828 and named the county seat the following year, supplanting the earlier settlement of Webbville, which soon dissolved and no longer exists.
It is the final resting place of the Confederate governor of Florida, Governor John Milton, and the scene of a minor Civil War battle between a small home guard of about 150 boys, old men, and wounded soldiers, and a contingent of approximately 900 Federal troops.
Governor Milton, who owned the Milton Plantation and hundreds of slaves, was the Governor of Florida during the Civil War years. Governor Milton was vehemently against the Confederate States of America reuniting with the United States of America. He vowed that he would rather die than see the Confederates reunite with America.

In late spring 1865, as Federal Troops were preparing to take control of Tallahassee, Governor Milton received word the Civil War had ended and that Florida would now be part of the United States again. Upon this news, the Governor died of a gunshot wound. Historians tell it that Milton committed suicide because he could not stand the thought of slavery ending and becoming a part of America again.

Marianna was also the site of the 1934 lynching of Claude Neal, an African American man accused of rape and murder. The national publicity generated by the lynching and resulting riot played a significant role in American history by helping to inspire national anti-lynching laws.

On Sunday, June 6th 2010 residents within Marianna city limits, were able to purchase alcoholic beverages on Sunday for the first time. To date there have been no changes to regulations dealing outside of Marianna “city” limits, and the No Beer on Sunday statue is in still effect for those areas.

  1. Having just opened a new business, we needed something that would grab the attention of those passing by. Our building was set back and hardly visible, and unless someone was looking for us the chances of being noticed was slim. I went to Signs & Vehicle Wraps they helped me to design lettering for the store front. They came up with a great layout and had it finished just in time for our open house. The fantastic work that they did has attracted many new customers. You guys are the best. Thank you, Sarah T
  2. “It was a pleasure doing business with your company. Your were not only fair in price but precise with your timing. The work that you did was done to perfection. It is gratifying to see everyday as I walk into my office. I look forward to doing more business with you in the future.” Thanks, Jack J
  3. “First impressions and last impressions at a day camp mean everything. Therefore, our exterior signs mean more to us than simple directions and building names. Each of our signs is custom built with vibrant colors and custom frames that invite attention and showcase the camp’s spirit and warmth. (Each sign has also lasted several years and still looks impeccable.) Signs & Vehicle Wraps showed us a large portfolio of options and then helped us choose the best one for us that met our expectations, budget, and timeline. They were a pleasure to work with.” Thanks so much, Jarred A

Graphic design is a collaborative process between a client and a designer — in conjunction with producers of form (i.e., printers, programmers, signmakers, etc.)— to convey a specific message to a targeted audience. The term “graphic design” can also refer to a number of artistic and professional disciplines that focus on visual communication and presentation. The field is also often referred to as Visual Communication or Communication Design. Various methods are used to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated. Common uses of graphic design include identity (logos and branding), web sites, publications (magazines, newspapers, and books), advertisements and product packaging. For example, a product package might include a logo or other artwork, organized text and pure design elements such as shapes and color which unify the piece. Composition is one of the most important features of graphic design, especially when using pre-existing materials or diverse elements.

Signs have an impact on the character and quality of the environment. They attract or repel the viewing public and affect the safety of vehicular traffic. As a historic community, Stillwater is quite unique. The proper control of signs is of particular importance because of its historical quality and uniqueness. Signs should be kept within reasonable boundaries consistent with the objectives and goals of the community to retain its special character and economic advantages, which rest in part on the quality of its appearance. Signs are regulated by the cities to stabilize and protect property values, maintain the visual attractiveness of the city and its environs, and to promote the public safety. The regulations govern the location, size, and type of signs and require that most signs obtain zoning and building permits. No signs are allowed in street right of ways.

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A roller or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink past the threads of the woven mesh in the open areas. Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of silk or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance, and ink is forced through the mesh onto the printing surface. It is also known as Screen Printing, silkscreen, seriography, and serigraph.
